Got a bottle and let it macerate for about two months.
It’s actually pretty close to the original, but when you compare them side by side, you can pick up the missing nuances. The original opens denser and warmer, and it has a louder, drier resinous vibe. Jalu’s take gets the spicy aromatic DNA right, but it’s a touch lighter with a brighter, greener lift in the opening. That said, it still settles into a creamy, dense ambery profile through the mid and base.
Overall, it’s very close and a genuinely well-done inspired version, just don’t expect a one-to-one match. The best way to put it is Jalu captured the shell, but not the soul. I found the same thing with Jalu Backwoods compared to Amouage Outlands, Jalu’s version leans creamier.
But to be fair, no one can replicate the exact profile anyway. Raw materials vary from batch to batch, and one thing perfumery really needs is time. Speed of creation changes the scent too.
Still, Jalu’s Imperial Tobacco uses quality aroma materials, and it shows. Just make sure you give it at least a month to macerate so everything can settle and harmonise. It makes a noticeable difference.
